Amitriptyline / Elavil

It's been a while since last post but I've been really relieved from my IBS-D symptoms. After 20-something years, I can actually say that things have been improving significantly. The reason being my new gastroenterologist who had me try a combo of Amitriptyline and Imodium.

So what am I taking and when?

Every evening after dinner, about 1-2 hours before I go to bed, I take one dose of Amitriptyline (also known as Elavil). I started with 10mg but that didn't do very much. So I upped it to 20mg and then 25mg once daily. Things really changed and I was feeling so much less anxiety. However, I couldn't improve the IBS issues unless I also took Imodium. I take one Imodium tablet in the morning and one at night. That's all! I've never seen results with taking that small amounts of Imodium. But I guess in combination with the amitriptyline that it works.

25mg amitriptyline daily is comforting on regular days. However, not on stressful days. So I'm planning to start 50mg soon to see if things are well even when under tremendous stress.

So there you have it! If you have IBS-D and haven't tried amitriptyline, I really urge you to see your primary case physician or gastroenterologist to find out how it can help you.

Take care! See you on the bright side!
